"He raised his gaze toward me and said with a calmness that unsettled me more than any frightening answer could have:
'I don't want to jump to conclusions.'

He then requested to take a swab from the eye.
And another swab from the edge of the eyelid.
He also requested that the foreign object be sent for microscopic analysis."
"I grew more nervous with every word.
When the nurse finished taking the samples, I couldn't help myself and asked him the question that had been haunting me ever since I saw that thing clinging to my daughter's eye:
'Could someone have put something in it?'
Silence fell for a few moments.
The doctor looked at me for a long time before saying:
'I cannot accuse anyone or rule anyone out until the results are in.'
It was a simple sentence.
But it echoed endlessly inside my head.
